How FERS is calculated
Your FERS annuity = High-3 Salary × Years of Service × Multiplier. The multiplier is 1% per year in most cases, but jumps to 1.1% if you retire at 62 or older with at least 20 years of service. That 10% bonus is worth staying for.
What this doesn't include
This covers your basic annuity only. FERS also includes Social Security and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). Most federal employees also get a FERS Supplement until age 62 if they retire before then.
